On Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies- Space Gambus Experiment

"It was, perhaps, inevitable that those geniuses at Space Gambus Experiment should seek to stimulate the visual sense as well as the audible. This they have achieved by producing images as dynamic and as vibrant as their music with the video - On Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies. This latest venture by Space Gambus Experiment is a visual and audible feast fairly bounding with joie de vivre. Within its four minutes and fifty-eight seconds, this compelling video sparks with youthful exuberance and energises with an electric nostalgia seemingly second to none"

New Music Video by SGE exclusive on The Star iPad.

Star iPad is proud to present the world exclusive premiere of Space Gambus Experiment's new single and music video, On Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies in today's issue (21/12/11)

By RIZAL JOHAN

On Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies is the latest single by sound-art and experimental music exponents Space Gambus Experiment (SGE). It is a collective headed by award-winning music video and short film director, Kamal Sabran who is an artist as well amongst other things and is based in Ipoh, Perak.

This exclusive music video and single is taken from SGE’s upcoming sophomore album (as yet untitled) which is due out early next year. Kamal takes a scientific approach to making music and views it from a molecular level i.e. frequencies. he also combines it with the plucked expressions of the oud or lute, guitar and beats.

“This song is a dedication to Albert Einstein and the title is taken from his first published paper on the theory of relativity, On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies,” said Kamal. “Einstein is an inspiration to me and his scientific contribution is simply staggering. What I’m doing here is interpreting his theories into music. Hence, it is subjective and abstract.

“Einstein played the violin as well so I believe he is a very creative person. With that in mind, SGE’s approach to music-making, music and the visual arts is experimental because we want to create something new. We’re constantly exploring new possibilities. What’s important here is the results. Sometimes we get it right and sometimes, we don’t. But either way, we are still learning by our successes and failures.”

The music video is directed and edited by Kamal and Nexus Polaris.Features Raja Zulkarnain Yusof on oud and Eric Hausmann on guitar, sitar and gong.

House of MATAHATI (HOM) end of the year exhibition ‘Ties’ is a gathering of five partnerships and a sort-of family get together. Works on display are by two pairs of siblings and three married couples –all connected by their common interest in the creative field and involvement in the visual arts. TIES is planned to be opened to public on Saturday, 17 December, 8pam at HOM, Ampang. The show will runs until Jan 07th, 2012.

The group exhibition features latest work by mixture of experienced & young artists,to mixed media works by Daud, Zuraimi as well as Haslin, an experimental installation by Kamal & Fadly, colorful expressionist paintings by Azliza, Kojek & Deyanna, and, Saharuddin & Diana’s signatory and text pieces and I think you will enjoy it very much.

TIES. When we think of LOVE, we think of it as our comfort zone in relationship, our hideaway from the bustling world outside. Within our domicile, we humanize our behaviors with emotions that are not just functional but that also reflect our attitude to life as well as inspire introspection. It's not unreasonable to say that the LOVE is an artistic concept of our personality and aspirations. This exhibition is combinations of the artists who actively producing artwork in local art scene and at the same time their relationship to each other in real life. Although the exhibition was conceived as collaboration, when the idea from two artists became practical, they could end up creating their own environments.
