Throughout Ordinary, immortal, Malay boy we are treated to a hauntingly evocative piece calling to the spirit of a new age, or is that newer age. The delicate harmonies and gentle musical collaboration easily unfolds its magic and mysteries to our enraptured ears, creating five minutes and twenty-one seconds of surprising beauty. That it is a confluence of East and West there is little doubt, but what a confluence – melding, the bringing together of ethereal harmonics dripping with light and the wonders of the universe, it truly is ‘far out man’, way out beyond the dross served up to us on a regular basis via radio and TV.

Kamal Sabran and Space Gambus Experiment have done it yet again – produced a track which seems near perfect from beginning to crackly end. The music draws you, enchants you and never fails to amaze right up to the final seconds with gamelan and oud. The vinyl crackling at the conclusion is sheer genius, and transported this ageing hippy back to his prime. It’s probably best listened to in the dark - waving a cigarette lighter with one arm".
