WHAT IS 15MALAYSIA?

15Malaysia is a short films project. It consists of 15 short films about Malaysia directed by some of the best young filmmakers in our country. Each film lasts between 3 to 7 minutes.

WHAT ARE THE FILMS ABOUT?

All our films have socio-political subject matters. These vary from corruption, race relations, inflation, Islamic banking, social apathy, ethical commerce, pedophilia, government health warnings and so on. Some are funny, other serious – all try to deal with aspects of Malaysian life. Each filmmaker was responsible for choosing his or her own subject matter.

IS THIS A POLITICAL PROJECT?

Insofar as all our films touch upon Malaysian lives, it goes without saying that they are creative expressions circumscribed by the country’s politics. However, 15Malaysia is staunchly non-partisan in party political terms. All Malaysians regardless of party political affiliations face the situations expressed in our films. As such, they are issues that every Malaysian citizen has a constitutional right to voice and are in fact above narrow party political interests.

THE SPRAWL: out of this world music collabo

The Sprawl is an experimental-improvisation online music project initiate by Kamal Sabran(Malaysia), Markus Wenninger(German) and Alvari Lume(Finland) in July 2009.

The Sprawl is a way of connecting performers employing a contemporary medium/software which allows for collaboration in almost real-time.

The occurring delays, clog ups & distortions are used, truly poststructuralist, as input to increase the signal side of the signal to noise ratio (not as an impediment); the hermeneutic situation of the performance is explored in the severity of the post tonal condition, which allows, for the first time, to speak of a world culture without any imperialistisms/hierarchy/pre-determination indeed, down to the very details of musical techniques in use.

Note for concert participants: If You take part in "The Sprawl", please make sure You have, if possible, Your instrument with You; since You'll use headset or like techniques, You'll be kindly asked to participate, not only as listener but also as performer, whenever You see fit.

"Should it occure that Your 'skype'connection fails during the conference call of the concert, You're out for its duration, I'm afraid."
