On Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies- Space Gambus Experiment

"It was, perhaps, inevitable that those geniuses at Space Gambus Experiment should seek to stimulate the visual sense as well as the audible. This they have achieved by producing images as dynamic and as vibrant as their music with the video - On Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies. This latest venture by Space Gambus Experiment is a visual and audible feast fairly bounding with joie de vivre. Within its four minutes and fifty-eight seconds, this compelling video sparks with youthful exuberance and energises with an electric nostalgia seemingly second to none"

New Music Video by SGE exclusive on The Star iPad.

Star iPad is proud to present the world exclusive premiere of Space Gambus Experiment's new single and music video, On Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies in today's issue (21/12/11)

By RIZAL JOHAN

On Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies is the latest single by sound-art and experimental music exponents Space Gambus Experiment (SGE). It is a collective headed by award-winning music video and short film director, Kamal Sabran who is an artist as well amongst other things and is based in Ipoh, Perak.

This exclusive music video and single is taken from SGE’s upcoming sophomore album (as yet untitled) which is due out early next year. Kamal takes a scientific approach to making music and views it from a molecular level i.e. frequencies. he also combines it with the plucked expressions of the oud or lute, guitar and beats.

“This song is a dedication to Albert Einstein and the title is taken from his first published paper on the theory of relativity, On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies,” said Kamal. “Einstein is an inspiration to me and his scientific contribution is simply staggering. What I’m doing here is interpreting his theories into music. Hence, it is subjective and abstract.

“Einstein played the violin as well so I believe he is a very creative person. With that in mind, SGE’s approach to music-making, music and the visual arts is experimental because we want to create something new. We’re constantly exploring new possibilities. What’s important here is the results. Sometimes we get it right and sometimes, we don’t. But either way, we are still learning by our successes and failures.”

The music video is directed and edited by Kamal and Nexus Polaris.Features Raja Zulkarnain Yusof on oud and Eric Hausmann on guitar, sitar and gong.
